A Mindset of Wellness

If you have been following these articles/posts and checking out our Growth Mindset Training Academy, you can see the interconnectedness of this mindset of a champion arch. Certainly, the characteristics of love pervade all the other parts I have written about to date. Faith and faithfulness do as well. Today’s article is about a mindset of wellbeing. Our health and wellbeing is unquestionably a product of how well we care for our mind, body, and spirit. While we as a society on the one hand are living longer, there are lots of data points that shows our over-all health and wellbeing is still not quite what it should be.

We see data about the problems of obesity, even in children, and lack of physical activity. Rising levels of anxiety and depression should concern us all. The opiate crisis is another factor that gets quite a bit of press. None of these are statistics that would demonstrate a healthy society. Of course there are other statistics such as extended life spans, reduction in the percentage of elderly who have to reside in nursing homes, and improved cancer survival rates. While those trends are positive it would be far better if rather than surviving cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and so on, we avoid having to deal with them in the first place.

Our wellbeing is greatly influenced by our love, faith, relationships, and of course how well we feed and care for our bodies and mind. Our beliefs around all these factors contribute mightily to our mindset of wellbeing. The greatest challenge most people voice around living healthier lives are time and habits. Either they seem to feel they don’t have the time or the habits are too hard to form. Without a doubt if you want to have a mindset of wellbeing, healthy habits are at the heart of that lifestyle and yes habits can be very challenging to create and break.

One of the challenges facing the modern day working family is around eating healthy meals, which entails both nutrition as well as the actual mealtime habits. There are companies that have started because of the desire families are showing for fresh, healthy meals, that are more convenient. When you couple the time necessary to feed a family and then add to that the time you should commit to some type of exercise routine it does, for many people, add stress instead of alleviate stress. I haven’t seen any specific studies relating the decreasing birthrates in America and Europe to these time and financial pressures of families, but I do believe there is a connection.

If people build into their morning and evening rituals the breathing and prayer/meditative and reflective practices we recommend, it cannot not help the mental and spiritual side of your wellbeing. If these become habits at a young age and done throughout their life time we would see a dramatic decrease in many stress related illnesses and diseases. Then if we can begin to help people manage their eating and exercise habits we will be well on our way to significantly improving the health of our society. There are three basic wellbeing principles and habits that behoove us as a society to help our young people follow and develop.

The daily habit of breathing practices has a significant impact on our ability to quickly and easily change our physical and emotional state. There is so much research in this area and the value of it is so great it becomes a significant part of our spirit of a champion course. Coupling that practice with use of anchoring techniques, aroma therapy, the enlightenment process, cognitive behavioral therapy reflective practices, the use of a aka chords, to name several tools to healthily manage your emotions throughout and at the end of the day will go a long way to ensure the mental and spiritual aspects of your wellbeing will be a positive influence on your physical wellbeing.

For many, food, beverages, and sedentary life style are a serious challenge to their physical wellbeing. Often the challenges associated with these areas are also a factor of what is going on emotionally, so again, taking care of your emotional wellbeing beginning at a young age can help minimize the risk of the health challenges associated with eating and lack of physical movement. Having said that, I am not advocating that everyone needs to become a gym rat to get the exercise they need. In our training program, we talk about basic movement patterns to help you maintain mobility, strength, endurance, and balance. There are many different avenues someone can choose to improve those three parts of your physical fitness.

Likewise, there are definite principles around nutrition. It is important to understand those principles and the long-term consequences of ignoring them. I know many people who lived life “to its fullest” when they were young and paid the price as they got older and were not particularly happy as their bodies began to breakdown much too young. Living a lifestyle where you deal well with your emotions, have great healthy habits around nutrition and exercise is your best defense against most diseases and being able to remain active and mobile well into your senior years. They are not a guarantee against becoming ill, but they certainly will help you reduce the risk or recover if you are stricken with some illness.

Our method of applying HEAT is especially prominent in the development of a mindset of wellbeing. The habits you create, the emotions you learn to deal with, and the attitude you develop across all areas of your life, when trained so they are ingrained into your lifestyle are what constitute the mindset of wellbeing. A mindset of wellbeing is a crucial component of a mindset of a champion.

What We Do: My team and I train athletes to become champions on and off the athletic field or arena. Who this is for? This is for parents and their student athlete who yearn for athletic and academic excellence as they fight to compete athletically at the next level, yet secretly fear the mounting pressures will cause their family to join the tens of thousands of college athletes and their families who experience stress related mental health challenges. What makes me unique? Besides the unique training, I have thirty years’ experience designing and implementing training programs for teenagers and young adults. Most coaches do not know how to transfer their skills to others because they don’t understand the mind/body connection. Traditional athletic coaching will never be maximized without proper mindset training, which requires both specialized knowledge and experience designing and implementing training programs. Case Studies Billy is an undersized shortstop. The summer of his freshman year in high school he got one hit his final at bat. By Billy’s junior year, he replaced the graduated four year Division 1 bound starting shortstop and earned all-conference honors. After graduating, he attended the local university, one of the top ranked D3 baseball teams in the country. After Covid canceled his freshman season, he was a scholar athlete for two straight years as an unrecruited walk on. Jill was a high school senior who was one of the favorites to win the indoor state championship in the 60m dash. Entering her final regular season meet, Jill’s times hadn’t improved from her junior year. She feared not getting a D1 scholarship. Using only one powerful mindset technique, Jill set personal and meet records in four successive meets while winning the state championship. She got her D1 scholarship. Mark was a junior at a D3 school baseball program. He had D1 talent and was expected to dominate the competition. Instead, Mark said, "I was mediocre at best." After mindset training, Mark did not lose a game for the final two years of college, became an All-American and even got to play three years of professional baseball.
